Berserker

Berserker was a female Drone[4]. They had myopic vision[5], and as such they mostly rely on smell and sound to locate enemies. If anyone moves too quickly or makes other distinct noises (for example: firing a weapon,) a Berserker will charge the source of the sound and attempt to either run it over or bludgeon it to death. If the sound is made while the target is behind a wall or any other solid object that the Berserker cannot break through, the Berserker will put her hand out in front of her and attempt to 'sniff out' her foe. Berserkers can gain enough momentum when running to smash through solid brick walls without being hurt.

Drone

Drones or Grubs were the foot soldiers of the Locust Horde. Having pure loyalty to their Queen, the Drones are willing to toss their lives away in a second to kill a single Gear[2]. The Drones are said to be bred by the Queen herself[3]. Many different classes of Drones specialize in different forms of combat. They are born and bred for combat, fearless even when outnumbered. It is believed that Drones have been appearing on the surface stealing children and other humans for decades before the Pendulum Wars.[4][5][6] Years before Emergence Day, the Locust Horde was building up its army in preparation of the invasion of the surface. Six weeks after the Pendulum Wars ended, the Horde attacked all major Seran cities with the Drones leading the charge.

Theron Guard

The Theron Guard represents the elite of the Locust, head-and-shoulders above the lowly Drones in terms of equipment, intelligence, and training. They are elite Locust, assigned to commando-style raids against high-profile targets and high-level defensive missions that require the sort of precision the Therons possess. If the Drones and Boomers represent the Locust military's hammer and anvil, then the Theron Guard is most decidedly its scalpel.

Therons are easily recognized from other Locust - they wear heavy body armor that covers more of the upper body than drone armor and a long, leather-like strip of material hanging from the back of the waist that trails behind them as they move and gives the impression of a trench coat combined with armor. Many wear distinctive-looking helmets as well, often heavily embellished. Theron Armor is chased with bright red flecks, presumably to give them a more-imposing appearance. Their voices are sibilant and with a definitive, whispering hiss, giving them a distinctly menacing presence. Though it is more intimidating, the hissing and whispering can be a big give away to the opponent of your position. Higher-ranked Therons are called Theron Sentinels and serve as sergeants in Theron Guard force groups. Theron sentinels are slightly taller, wear a slightly deeper shade of red armor, and have a round helmet with no visible eye slits. The differences in visible appearances are minimal and easily overlooked in the heat of combat, but so are their stat upgrades so don't fret about it.

Boomer

Flame Boomer

The Flame Boomer is new Boomer variant recently fielded by the Locust Horde, first appearing in Displacement, the fifth chapter of Act 3 in Gears of War 2. They are equipped with a Scorcher Flamethrower fueled by a set of Imulsion filled canisters on their back, similar to their Flame Grenadier counterparts. They wear slightly more armor than standard Boomers, including a helmet that fully covers their face and head. Despite their helmets, they are susceptible to headshots, like most Boomers

Grinder

Butcher

A Boomer and a Butcher are basically the same creature, although the Butcher has less armor and a large meat cleaver used for cutting up Rockworm meat to feed Locust soldiers, although they will not hesitate to do the same to you. The Butcher also has a meat hook in his other hand, but he never uses it.

Butchers are pathetically easy to kill when found alone (for example, on Horde) their movement speed allows them to catch up with a player, but rolling away from them means that, unless cornered, the player is faster. Their melee attack is deadly, but unless they sneak up on you (which will be difficult as the controller vibrates when Boomers approach) you should be fine. It is also very easy to avoid, considering it's possible to melee one to death without ever taking a hit. If you have any trouble, use a shotgun on the Butcher, and this should kill it within two to four hits depending on the difficulty and how close it is.

Mauler

The Mauler is a type of Boomer, equipped with a Boomshield and a horned helmet that together give them considerable cover from small arms fire. The Boomshield they carry can be used by the player. All Maulers carry an explosive flail, which they run forward wielding and is deadly at close range. When shot they will flinch and deploy their shield to absorb the bullets, making chest shots more difficult. Headshots are more advisable due to its large head, and their capacity to endure heavy fire.

Digger Boomer

The Digger[1] was a Boomer Variant introduced that appeared around 18 months after the sinking of Jacinto. It was armed with a Digger Launcher. It launches the explosive piranha-like projectiles at it enemies, either the Lambent Locust or Humans. Unlike other Boomers, the Digger Boomer is part of the Savage Locust, having reverted to a tribal mindset and no longer having direct loyalty to the Locust Horde.

Corpser

Corpsers appear as horrific giant spider-like monsters. They have been known to track and stage ambushes so they definitely have some fraction of intelligence. Their heads appear almost humanoid and are usually helmeted, and although they appear to have several glowing eyes when they are wearing their helmets, they actually only have two very small black eyes; those are actually lamps. Corpsers have eight thick rock camouflaged legs that guard their vulnerable caterpillar-like underbellies, which is the only exposed part of its body.

Brumak

The Brumak was a massive Hollow creature, capable of pushing over an Assault Derrick with a single shoulder-shove. COG research indicates that they were bred from apes by the Locust, although they resemble something closer to a dinosaur, often growing to about 15 meters in height (49 feet) and weighing around 15,000 kilograms (33,069 lbs).[2] These huge monsters had an extraordinarily thick hides, even without their heavy armor. They [3] are deadly at close range. For long range attacks, they carry wrist-mounted chainguns and a back-mounted rocket launcher. There are rumors of Brumaks carrying energy beam cannons instead of the chainguns. Much like the Corpser, the Brumak only has two eyes, but their helmets are covered in glowing lamps giving the illusion that they have more. Until the sinking of Jacinto, no human has ever attempted to ride one.

Wretches

Small, jittery members of the Locust, Wretches are weak when on their own, but potentially deadly in large packs. They attack by climbing on or over surfaces and lunging at their target in a vicious frenzy. They make up for their lack of strength with speed and unpredictability, and are often used as a distraction or as cannon fodder by the Locust. Alone, they are easily beaten, but in groups, they can literally tear COG soldiers to shreds. They often make their presence known before becoming visible by letting out a horrid, extremely high-pitched scream that can make the Gears cover their ears in pain. They are very dangerous when Gears forget to look up or are overwhelmed by a subsequent attack.

Kantus

Kantus are essentially Locust priests and are led by the Locust High Priest, Skorge. They stand almost 7 feet with leathery white flesh. They are often heard chanting, which is used to communicate with other Locust to direct attacks but can also revive downed Locust soldiers. They are extremely agile and have been seen rolling to one side to avoid gunfire. Their main weapons in battle are the Gorgon Burst Pistol and the Ink Grenade.

Reavers

Large, flying creatures about twenty times the size of a drone. They are saddled up and ridden by a Beast Rider as well as a passenger Drone (or Theron Guard), who guns down enemies, usually with a Torque Bow. They play an essential role in the Locust offensive as fire support and harassers, and are able to impale Gears with their tentacles. Reavers have very weak armor, and in both games can be killed easily by Troika machine guns or heavy fire to the stomach.

Seeder

Large, insect-like Creatures that launch Nemacysts into the air, flying jellyfish-like creatures that act as flying mines and anti-air interceptors, causing havoc for King Raven choppers throughout both games. When Seeders are present in an area, they scramble COG radio frequencies. Nemacyst have the annoying habit of homing in on the player, exploding on impact and injuring anyone around it. Seeders can be killed using the Hammer of Dawn; additionally, Seeders are susceptible to the heavy cannon fire from a Centaur Tank, a Brumak or a Reaver. Seeders and or Nemacysts also jam COG communication between com links within close range of the creature.

Torture Barge

The Barge is actually a massive living creature coupled with Locust technology, used by the Locust to transport Locust troops They are also used to hold and torture Human prisoners, which is where it gets the nickname of the Torture Barge. The only way to destroy a Barge is to sever its legs, which it uses in tandem with its gas-filled body to crawl along the ceiling of the Hollow.

Bloodmount

The Bloodmounts are usually kept in a cage until the riders choose them. They carry a single rider on its back for gun support. It has two legs, which it uses as claws to attack the player, but it really walks on its hands and attacks with its shriveled feet. Once the passenger has been eliminated it will run at you and maul you. This also occurs if and when you cause enough damage to its head, where the Bloodmount will attempt to claw it's helmet off, sending the beast into a violent rage.

Tickers

This type of Locust seems to resemble a small rodent with long front legs. It is a walking bomb that will detonate when it gets close to an enemy, though there is a slight delay between ignition and explosion thus giving the player plenty of time to kill it. As its name suggests, it emits a 'ticking' sound. The Kantus priests often call upon Tickers to help defend themselves against an assault.

Siegebeast

The Siegebeasts was a race of savage creatures that have been enslaved by the Locust Horde and forced to operate as mobile catapults within the Locust Army. They were reintroduced into the Locust ranks after the Lambent Invasion of Sera's surface, at which point in the Locust's history, their population had become severely depleted, and much like the COG post E-Day, they were forced to fight with whatever was left to them.
